Faith

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the one of the cornerstones of christianity. We have to have faith or believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and only through him we can attain salvation to be a christian. Faith means a childlike belief in God.

It's amazing how quickly kids learn how to ride a bike, ice skate, or roller skate. As an adult, it is much harder to learn these things. Recently, I tried ice skating. I put on the skates and was immediately afraid. I felt unsteady on my feet and thought of all the ways I could fall and break something. Then I went into the ice rink with my friend but after putting a few steps on the ice, I skated back to the exit. After some persuasion from my friend, I got back on the ice and for the next hour, I skated around the rink, never letting go of the rail. All around me, little kids were skating gracefully. I saw many kids that were skating for the first time. Most of the time, a parent was holding on to their hand, so they had an easier time letting go of the rail and just trusting that everything is going to be ok for they were taken care of. Little kids have this ability to just trust their parents completely. They know everything will be fine if mom or dad is around. These kids after some time, let of their parents hands and was skating on their own unlike me who was still holding on to the rail for dear life.

This childlike faith is what God requires from us.

Matthew 14
26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Peter, when he first saw Jesus walking on the sea, was very excited. If Jesus knew how to walk on water, he wanted to try it too. Just like I was about ice skating. Ice skating looked so effortless and graceful, surely I could do it too. So Peter asked Jesus to make him walk on water. So Jesus called him to come to him and Peter gets out of the boat and starts to walk on water. First, he is amazed that he is not sinking when he looks down on the water, but then he looks up. He sees the water raging, the winds blowing, and the black sky and Peter gets sacred. He loses that childlike faith that Jesus will make everything ok and he begins to sink. Jesus then saves him from the water and asks him why he doubted.

Doubt is the opposite of faith. Without faith, Peter was not able to walk on water. Only faith will save us and help us to be true christians. So, no matter how hard a situation might be or how much of a struggle it is, or how impossible your dream may be, believe that God is more than able to help you and see you through. Believe and you will be able to walk on water with Jesus!
